The "Cherished Recipes: Present and Past was a collective work from The Ladies of the Enlisted Association of the Oregon National Guard Auxiliary and Relatives, both Army and Air organization. Together these women, sisters and daughter came together to create a cookbook from recipes handed down to them from their mothers, Grandmothers, Great Grandmothers and yes Great-Great Grandmothers. Some of the recipes are from the present that may or may not have been altered from family recipes. Either way they are still great recipes.
Gloria Neville was one of those ladies that helped to put this handmade cookbook to life. She not only included some of her own family recipes, but she also drew the art throughout the book. Although her studio is listed in the cookbook along with her address and phone number, the studio has since closed, and she is no longer at that address or has that phone number.
Going through the cookbook I found recipes from my mom, both my grandmothers, a great grandmother and two aunts.
All those having an address and phone number in this cookbook have since relocated to another location.
There are seventy-two pages in this cookbook with five sections.
The Sections are:
Green Section - Breads - 14 pages of recipes
Yellow Section - Soup & Salad - 9 pages of recipes
Blue Section - Main Dishes - 12 Pages of Recipes
Pink Section - Desserts - 12 Pages of Recipes
Purple Section - Miscellaneous - 13 pages of Recipes
There is even a recipe for Soap. There are a lot of Oregon history notes, a Diary entry by William J. Watson, several helpful hints and a content page and credits page. I have eaten most of these recipes growing up and they are all good.
